So how do you find a good home for your rescue/foster?
:Giving your kitten(s) a home:
By Texas Law: A kitten is allowed to be rehomed by the age of 8 weeks old. Rehoming Fee: For doing all the work you deserve a little reward for caring for an animal that clearly needed help. - Depends on the vet bill if you had to take them to the vet - How much of feeding you had to use such as formula, or Cat Chow you have given - Cat Litter If you are fostering for an rescue agency. You are not allowed to collect the adoption fee. They pay for your foster's vet bills, food, cat litter, supplements that are needed, microchipping, spaying/neutering and vaccinations. The only thing you can do is make sure your foster's have a good future home. By posting on i.e. craigslist if they are under 12 weeks old to give interest for future adopters. You can advertise for the kitten at 8 weeks of age. You need to follow their guidelines they have them there for a reason. Rehoming Average Range: $25-$60 this is per kitten. If they want to adopt two make it reasonable. For example if its $20.00 each make it $35.00 This is for if you are on your own. When they turn 6 weeks old weigh them. Make sure they are at least a good 1lb 6oz for their first booster shot from the vet; Some vets wait until they are 8 weeks old. Give them protection from future illnesses when they go to their new home. Also give the future pet owner papers. They want to make sure they don't double vaccine it might make the kitten/cat sick. How do you know if its the right person? If they are a cat person ask them about their past experiences in raising a cat or a kitten. If they are passionate about it you know you have found the right person. Kittens: Preferably older adults who know how to raise kittens and not step on them. Cats: For children a little older than 5. You are allowed to say NO If you do not like where the conversation is going meaning they are not passionate on taking care of an pet that's a lifetime commitment. That's not your person. Where to meet: If you are comfortable meeting the future adopters in your home that is okay. Make sure you have someone else with you when this happens. If you are not comfortable: Meet in a public place that has cameras. Like a police station. Bring someone with you during this exchange. THIS IS A DO NOT: Holidays; Easter, Halloween (black cat sacrifices) or Christmas. Why because people I don't know why this still exists realize the kitten is growing up and they are not cute anymore. So what do they do? Rehome it in an unsafe home or relocate it somewhere without being responsible. There is a penalty I believe. If you liked the work that you have done on raising a kitten, by taking photos or videos you can volunteer for a rescue group that is cleared through your City and State. Show them videos and photos on how well you have done with raising a kitten. They will supplement the costs of food, litter and if needed formula and pet training pads. **Show them your photos not the one I have provided, because they will come to your home and make sure you have the ability to take care of an animal. Depending which agency you are applying for.** |
