There is no purrfect way to pick just any cat.The reason why I am making this blog post is because I have been asked this question multiple times, in my situation how do I find the most perfect cat for me?
In all honesty there is never a perfect way to pick an ideal cat. Accidental kittens and cats that walk into your life is the most purrfect one of all. I've had conversations with potential adopters who have had a long time family member by paw or claw. And they need time to grieve like myself. I've had a love bird when I used to live in Connecticut. And when I went to pick my bird my mother had told me there was a yard sale everything had to go even the birds. This was let's say 17 yrs ago. When I saw her Delilah, she had a partner blue colored love bird she was peach. I only had enough money for one I paid $10.00 for her another woman purchased her partner. And I remember them screeching for another as we were walking away to the car to bring her home asap. At my age I never knew that animals needed a partner/companion. So I'm at the age around 16 I think. Of course every single living creature had to get used to their new environment and who they were living with. So the bonding time well was from chasing her around the house to where she was comfortable enough to actually sit on my chest, leg or shoulder. Delilah lived for 10 yrs. During those 10 yrs I went to college and moved out had my only human child and I didn't take her with me because of well cats were home at the time where I was living. She stayed at my parents home. I moved back in with them. And I have spend the last year of her life with her. She passed away 5 months later I moved to Texas I wanted to take her with me but older animals don't travel too well. Now like with everyone they need time to grieve and let themselves heal because only we that have bonded with that animal will not be the same in another. Its going to be new experiences, new memories, and a long journey. The only answer I can give if you really want to invest in another life that's not a human being is to explore, see which animal bonds with you. You don't have to commit to that one specific being that you have sought after in your eyes. I have seen it in other adopters when they are looking for another soul to enter into their life. What I would notice is that they are lost, lost in a sea of old memories, within a closed port. That ship that you are on it all depends on you if you are ready to sail onto a new journey, yes there will be doubts and uncertainties. That is what being a human is about sailing on a journey to explore where you want to go and never know where it'll lead to. It is okay not to make a choice in that particular second. When you are ready to open up, animals can sense it by scent or by vibes that are given. I would even recommend fostering if you have the spare time to take in a life that needs help they don't fully understand what goes on in their world because their lives are made to be simple not complex like a human. I have gone through 90 cats within 3 years to find my girl I already have my boy cat and I wanted my girl cat. Haku (peaceful winding changing river) my tuxedo male picked me to be his human I never pictured a perfect cat. I wasn't a cat person at that time. I really wasn't when his mom was outside I thought she was pretty a long hair black cat that I wanted to bring inside because she was friendly and I didn't realize she was pregnant until I noticed how she walked and boy she waddled like a penguin. Haku picked me at the age of 4-6 weeks old. He still lives with me today turning 3 years old on April 24th. And he turned out to be a great foster daddy. He finally had a say with Erwyn Avlynn (River Song of Winter) a Silver Egyptian Mau. She was adopted out and brought back to us because things didn't work out with the other primary cat. Now she's my girl, I share with Haku. I'm not ready to be called grandma yet. With all this I hope this gives some kind of clarity to future adopters who want to invest in another life but has a little bit of doubt. I'm just saying it's okay to explore a bit when it comes to making new memories. They don't have to be just a short hair, long hair or medium hair, light to dark color, the stripes or spots on their body. Every single paw print that walks into your life it may not be your ideal kitty it could be just meant to be. Give that feline a chance and if it doesn't work out they probably were meant to be with someone else who needs them in their life and that is okay too. It takes time to bond and with that new bond only then you can make new memories. If you remember this as a kid you can apply this to your kitten/cat's health. So how can I mix formula? SOOOOO much time has past since my last post. I have learned new ways to supplement additional stuff into the formula along with hardships. In 2017 I have lost 11 emergency bottle baby kittens. Most of them had viruses, or fleas sucking the living life out of them, lack of plasma to let them live and some just pass away without showing any symptoms. Now its 2018 in late January two kittens came to my care I swore off on bottle babies but in this case the person who was taking care of them did not know what to do. If you're like me doing the facepalm thing expression saying fine I'll do it for the final time. It took 5 people just to find me phone call wise. One of them was a siamese mix and the other is a bicolor grey/white. Naming wise after dealing with so many deaths I decided to name them after stars. One was called Polaris (siamese) and the other called Seren (bicolor). It seemed like they were doing fine for one whole week. Until Polaris was not up to it. We fed them every thirty minutes because they were hungry or wanted their cat mom which they were robbed of. Somebody thought it was a good idea to throw them in the dumpster. The night of the Lunar Eclipse, Polaris was feeding by not really acting normal. I was trained to learn how to do Sub Q fluids. I bathed him because well he made a mess of himself and couldn't really clean himself. He was happy felt at peace when I dried him up with the blow dryer to keep his body temperature normal. During that night i administered the fluids he was missing. He passed away during the lunar eclipse. He was not in pain, or screaming for food, or his sibling. I kept him hydrated as much as possible with the Pedialyte non flavor. Seren we thought she would pass away too. In the mental state if you were like in my head thinking are you going to pass away too? Nope she kept going. Even with her stool changing colors from pitch black to white. She went to the vet, they couldn't even figure out what to do with her. I'm serious vets are not trained to handle neonatal kittens like full time dedicated volunteers are. She was given antibiotics twice from two different vets. And yes Seren is still alive with her first vaccination booster shot. She kisses me during the middle of the night to make sure her mommy gets kisses. This is what I have done from my own personal experience this is on a case by case basis. For Seren I have mixed Probiotics (living microorganisms to help get the GI tract in order) into the formula and Lysine Powder (Immune System Builder). This made a really big improvement including gruel. Some of you might think isn't formula enough for them to survive on. I did too when I first started back in 2016 I got lucky that my bottle babies survived and they were a different age group, but when faced with a challenge in 2017 where the kittens were basically 0 days old with their umbilical cord attached and no momma cat around you have to improvise which I did improve now in 2018. You will spend tireless nights as if you yourself had a baby and your home looks like a tornado just hit it and nobody knows what to do because they expect mom to do everything. This formula mix has worked out for me and I hope it works out for others as well in the future. Oh! if you suspect that your rescue has worms. You can deworm them at home with Homeopet Wrm Clear it gets rid of 4 types of worms (Ring/Tape/Hook/Round). The most common worms found and yes it works. You can put the drops in the bottle of formula. Follow the directions on that bottle. If you use the other formula that's just plain PetAG KMR blue color they will get constipated no matter how many times they say just add a little more water. I'm serious I have had to do unnecessary enemas on kittens who were extremely constipated just by that formula product and I wasn't the only one who had problems with it.
I have recently found a site called: catster.com where they have loads of information from a veterinarian and their associates. They give advice on how to take care of your kitten/cat from subq to human pregnancy. They have been on there since 2011. I went through their blogs from 2017 down to 2015 and as you can imagine my eyes burnt out. I have probably saved about 100 articles in my inbox that I thought was needed for what I do and think people need to read or look at. I'm surprised my gmail account didn't explode. I will post them on here asap.
They're everywhere!Fleas the nasty little things that are lice to kittens/cats/puppies and dogs! They drive your rescue/foster/pet crazy with the constant scratching, and itching begging you to help you. I've even had use my good tweezers to get them off my fosters. SAFE WAY TO REMOVE THEM FROM A KITTEN UNDER 6 WEEKS: USE DAWN DISH SOAP OVER 6 WEEKS: I was recently told about this wonderful solution how to get rid of fleas instantly. That was referred to me. :D There's an over the counter pill solution that you have to order online: Capstar. The fleas just pop right off. You will see them act crazy saying oh I should get these fleas right off of me and it works! And then there is this to treat the fleas that are already inside:
I like to bulk. I hate going back to the store.
